This year, HM Queen Margrethe II can celebrate 50 years as monarch.

Due to the current situation with the corona virus, it has been necessary to reduce or even cancel public events.
These reductions have also influenced the celebration of the Queen's 50-year jubilee, where some events are smaller than planned.

However, the tradition of instituting a medal to commemorate important events in the Queen's life is not affected.

"The Commemorative medal in connection with the 50th anniversary of HM The Queen’s accession to the throne" is struck in gilded silver with a crown attached. It is worn from a light blue ribbon.
The medal is awarded to members of the royal family, court employees and a few select individuals.
