The dormant Swedish orders - the Order of the Sword, the Order of the North Star and the Order of Vasa - which could not be awarded to Swedes since 1974, are now again available for all for meritorious service.

The decision will take effect from January 1st, 2023.

A committee with participants from all affected authorities and organizations has for a long time looked at the possible design of a system of orders. The goal was to present a suggestion for a "modern public system of recognition".

The committee has considered criterias for awards, who can be awarded and even details related to the appearance of the insignias and the colour of the ribbons.
