The answer to the question was given in an insightful and interesting presentation by Anders Vidstrup, who - in addition to his great interest in phaleristics - has a maybe even greater interest in philately.
The presenter based his research on the ranking order list of 1693 and various volumes of the Court- and State Calendar. He explained when to use the titles Your Excellency, Your Honour etc.
on letters when accompanied by the indication of being Knight of the Order of the Elephant, Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog etc.
Vidstrup also covered the many abbreviations of the Order of the Elephant, the Order of Dannebrog and medals. Writing styles and abbreviations changed over time.
In addition to orders and medals mentioned on letters, it is interesting to find out more about the individual based on the name and title on the letter. This way, phaleristics, philately and genealogy merges
perfectly.
The presentation was accompanied by several nice exhibition boards with philatelistic material and the relevant phaleristic objects.
