The medal was awarded to William Watts, who served aboard H.M.S. Eling during the battle of Copenhagen on April 2nd, 1801.

Of the 555 "COPENHAGEN 1801" bars struck, four were awarded to crew members of H.M.S. Eling for this battle.

Morton & Eden auction catalogue 128 (the medal is lot 215).

A similar medal - and its Danish 'cousin' - is the subject of the article "The medal to sailor Christen Nielsen Börsmose" in OMSD Journal no. 60 (2023).
