Treasurer of the Royal Orders Per Thornit has passed away

Per Thornit was a former member of the Orders and Medals Society of Denmark (OMSD).

Per Thornit was born on June 10th, 1942. A lawyer by education, he started his career as a clerk in the Ministry of the Interior.
In 1985 he became head of H.M. The Queen's Cabinet Secretariat.
From 1990 he was Chief Secretary to Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim.
In 2004, Thornit was the chief-of-court for Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess, while at the same time serving as Secretary for the Chapter of the Royal Orders.
He resigned from his position in 2010 and served as the Treasurer of the Royal Orders.


Per Thornit passed away on July 30th.


Thornit received the Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog on May 26th, 2006 and was decorated with numerous foreign Commander class decorations. He was also appointed Chamberlaín.


Before he joined the royal court, Per Thornit was a committed member of the Orders and Medals Society of Denmark. He participated as a member of the board and was always ready to assist other members.
He contributed to the field of phaleristics with the books "Tegn paa udvortes Erkjendelse...: Bertel Thorvaldsens og H. C. Andersens ordener" (1979), "The royal commemorative and coronation medals of Scandinavia 1892-1982" (1984) and "The royal commemorative and inauguration medals of the Netherlands" (1984).


He donated his extensive library of phaleristic literature to OMSD.
